Helena's neighborhoods sit along Buck Creek and the Cahaba River among tall pines and hardwoods, and storms have a history of putting those trees onto houses here. When a tree is dead, cracked, or leaning toward the house, it needs to come down in a controlled way, and the debris needs somewhere to go.
K&M Professional Tree Service is based in Columbiana, the Shelby County seat, and has worked across Shelby County and the Birmingham area for over 30 years. K&M is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and owner Kenny Malone personally oversees every job.

Helena does not pick up yard debris
In September 2022, the Helena City Council ended the city's weekly yard debris pickup and its annual bulk trash day, WBRC reported. The service cost the city about $400,000 a year and fees covered less than half of it. Household garbage and recycling are handled by Republic Services.
The city is also clear that if you hire a contractor, it is the contractor's responsibility to remove the debris from your property. With no city brush pickup to fall back on, make sure haul-off is written into any tree quote you get in Helena.
Do you need a permit to remove a tree in Helena?

K&M has handled several tree removal jobs for me, the most memorable of which was on a Sunday, when a huge oak tree fell.
K&M came out same day and took down some very large and potentially hazardous pines that were leaning towards my house.
Great guys to work with, showed up when they said they would and cleaned up so well you couldn't tell they were there.
I have been using K&M for several years. Prices are good, crew is great and they always clean up. They take care of my property like it's theirs.
Excellent guys, respectful of my property and in and out quick. 5 trees down, three stumps ground.
