Columbiana's debris pickup rules
Inside the city, Columbiana gives each household one free debris collection per month. Brush and limbs must be 6 inches or less in diameter and 12 feet or less in length, neatly stacked at the street. Bags of leaves, pine straw, and clippings can weigh up to 50 pounds, and the whole load can be no bigger than the city truck bed. Extra loads are $50 each.
The city does not pick up stumps, trunks, or limbs over 6 inches across. And it is direct about hired help: contractors, landscapers, tree surgeons, timber cutters, and yard services must remove all waste from their work and take it to an approved landfill. Make sure haul-off is in any quote. Questions go to Public Works at (205) 669-5818.

In 2005, a brief tornado touched down 3 miles northeast of Columbiana and took down trees and power lines, the Shelby County Reporter reported. See storm damage tree cleanup and 24 hour emergency tree service.

I have been using K&M for several years. Prices are good, crew is great and they always clean up. They take care of my property like it's theirs.
Kenny and his crew showed up on time and did exactly what they said they would do. They left the area spotless like new. Great prices and very dependable.
Big #1 Motorsports needed some major lot cleanup and these guys absolutely knocked it out! Showed up early and worked in the rain to get the job done in one day.
K&M has handled several tree removal jobs for me, the most memorable of which was on a Sunday, when a huge oak tree fell.
Had a tree covered in vines with power lines running through it. Trimmed and took it down perfectly.

Yes, inside city limits: one free debris collection per month. Limbs must be 6 inches or less in diameter and 12 feet or less in length, stacked at the street. Extra loads are $50 each.
No. The city says tree surgeons, landscapers, contractors, and timber cutters must remove all waste from their work and take it to an approved landfill. It also does not pick up stumps, trunks, or limbs over 6 inches across.
Disputes over a neighbor's tree are generally a civil matter between the two property owners, not something the city settles. Talk to your neighbor first, and get legal advice if you cannot work it out. This is general information, not legal advice.
Generally, you can trim branches that hang over your property line at your own expense, as long as you do not go onto your neighbor's land or kill the tree. Talk to your neighbor first. This is general information, not legal advice.
In general, your own homeowners insurance covers damage to your house, even from a neighbor's tree. If the neighbor knew the tree was dead or dangerous and did nothing, that can change things. Check your policy.
The cheapest quote is often missing insurance, the stump, or haul-off. In Columbiana, a quote without haul-off leaves you with debris the city will not take.
Mostly by the size of the tree, how close it is to the house or other structures, access for equipment, and what is included: haul-off, cleanup, and the stump. That is why an on-site estimate matters.
Roughly $150 to $750 using HomeGuide's per-foot figures, and $351 to $435 in Alabama according to ProMatcher. A tree next to the house costs more.
ProMatcher lists land clearing in Alabama at about $1,109 to $2,265 per acre. Heavily wooded land, big trees, and stump removal push it higher. See land clearing.
There is no general free program. The utility handles trees threatening its lines, and debris programs sometimes follow a declared disaster. A tree on your own lot is normally the owner's cost.
The loblolly pine is the most common tree in the state. The longleaf pine is Alabama's official state tree.
Loblolly pine, sweetgum, tulip poplar, and water oak are among the fastest. Fast growth often means weaker wood, which is why they are so often the trees that fail in storms.
A common rule of thumb is no more than about 25 percent of the live canopy in a year. Dead and broken limbs can come off any time.
